Modern day American teen Layla ventures into the unexplored reaches of her uncle's property one summer afternoon where she finds a hidden cave. Curious, she steps into the enveloping shadow of the cave, therefore out of the daylight of all she knows. In the darkness, she slips and feels herself falling.

The next thing she sees is bright daylight once more, then she falls through branches of trees that fail to catch her. She lands hard on the ground, but is soon standing again. Layla finds herself surrounded by forest and believes she is safe on her uncle's land. However, once she explores even further, she learns that she has not only crash landed into a wholly different land, but also in another time--centuries ago!
